This Might Be A Long Entry

Wow. What a weekend! First, on Wednesday, as you all know was my official 16th birthday. I got all of my gifts my parents in advance(phone, music stand, flute case) and I spent the morning alone because my parents were at work. When my mom came home, I invited Will over to hang out for a while. We then went to Fatz for a birthday dinner. I got chicken fingers(gasp, right?). We went home after that and Will hung out a little bit longer. On Thursday, I did nothing.

On Friday, Caitlin T. took me shopping at Northlake since she wasn't going to be able to come to my party on Saturday. We went to Macey's and Belks(my energy was low so I didn't really feel like doing anything :) ). We went to Olive Garden for dinner and I got a mixed grill dinner. Delicious I might add. We saw JD there(NLHS band alumni) and he would walk by and talk to us every once in a while. And then came the "quote of the night". He came up behind Caitlin and I and scared the crap out of me. I was holding a little potato bite thingy and when he scared me, the skin broke off and fell on my plate. I started laughing and told him that he broke my potato. Yes, through laughter I managed to look at him and say, "You broke my potato!". I guess you could say my energy came back after having a vault and yummy dinner. We got Italian ice cream(2X the sugar of American ice cream =]]]]]]]]] ) and split it between Caitlin, her mom, and me. Our waiter then put six mints down(2 for each of us) and I scarfed two before they could even turn their heads. Yes, I got my energy back. And then came the moment of the evening. My mom told me to be back by a certain time(8-9ish). I got home at 7ish after Caitlin's mom dropped me off after dinner. And apparently, there was some surprise that I was going to get. I was getting impatient and ruining through the possibilities in my head but I could not figure it out. I was thinking I was going to find out that I was adopted or for my junior year, I was going to be enrolled in military school. When my mom said that she had to "pick it up", I began to think, "Huh, Pick it up? It must be a family member!" With that in mind, I was trying to think, "Now, who would be coming?" I certainly did not know so I began to rule that out. Well, guess what? I was right! My Aunt Karla(the one that comments on blogs) came down for a visit and is staying with us until Tuesday. When she walked in through the door, I peeked downstairs and shouted, "I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT!" and they started laughing. So yeah, my aunt is here now.

Whew. Now onto Saturday, the day of the party. Preparations for the party went...well, I suppose. My mom got up late morning to start baking the cake. Well, my mom is not a baker. She never has been. She didn't read the box where it said that one box of cake mix makes two layers. So, not having read that, she made batter for two boxes and poured an entire box of cake batter into one 9" pan and another box into another 9" pan. So, we had 4 possible layers of cake batter squished into two separate pans. Well, that didn't go over well....actually, it did. Excuse the pun. The cake began to overflow in the oven and the whole house started to smell like smoke. My mom didn't know what was going on and was looking in the oven going "oh my gosh!!!" and so, she tried to keep baking it. Not a good idea. It started to overflow even more! Poor Mom. It was hilarious but she felt bad for it because she ruined my cake. It was okay though. She made me laugh. :) So, she went out to Harris Teeter and bought another cake that was delicious and we put prism candles on it. Those things are awesome. The flames glow different colors. Don't you just love technology? Okay, so, people came to my house at six. It was Megan, Katie, Jennifer, Josh, Will, and me. It was an interesting night with so many characters in the room. Then came present time. Of course, money and gift cards. But from Auntie K, I got something else. Music. So much music, I was completely shocked. I thought I would drown in it all. Some things off the top of my head are Pirates of the Caribbean, The Magic Flute, Poem, Wicked, Winter's Crossing, The Celtic Music Fake Book, The Classical Music Fake Book, and others. Let me just say, I won't be bored for a long time. She literally doubled my music collection! She also got me two books for oboe. A solo book and a method book. Geez, I might drown in all this music. But I love it all. I really do. Now, the thing that is troubling me the most is, how the heck am I going to get all of this to the beach in July? =)

Well, I think that is all. The party went well. Everyone appeared to be having a good time. And that's the end of that. I really should blog daily when I have this much going on. lol. Well, have good summers! I will be blogging again soon! I don't have pictures but if you check my mom's blog, she might be putting some up from the party. Laters everyone!

Early Birthday Present=BIG SHOCK!!!

This is the phone in the closed position. Like I said, small. It's not even the length of your hand from palm to middle finger tip. It literally fits in the palm of your hand. =D I feel like I should be on one of those small camera phone commercials where the girl is like "I really like it! *stomps up stairs* I will never hate you and I never will!". ha.

It came with those headphones. Sweet, huh?

Last night, my parents called me downstairs and asked me to sit down on the couch. I thought I was in big trouble or something but then my mom took a Verizon bag out of the closet and handed it to me. I was sitting there like ????????? I opened it to find a Samsung Juke cellular device in the bag! I was like =O because I didn't even know that my parents knew that I wanted a new phone. It was completely out of the blue. I love this phone. It's a phone but it's also a 2GB MP3 player. It's so small and nifty! I love it but I just did NOT expect to get a new phone. So, instead of taking pics of it myself, I have provided you with pics from the net. =D Laziness is fun...I also got a belt clip for it and a car charger for those long trips, you know. =DDDDDDDD

Enjoying Lack of FWPS!

My flute is back as you all know (*piddles on floor again*) and I've been playing the heck out of it. I've got to say though, My favorite place to play is in the dining room. It makes the flute echo just right to where it sounds really pretty. I have posted pictures of it. The ceiling makes this sort of "cone of sound" which is why it sounds so pretty. And plus, it's just fun to play in the dining room because of the bay(sp) windows. It gives me a "peaceful" feeling. Of course, I could play flute anywhere, anytime. I would play in a closet if I had to.

But anyhoo, I had my first flute lesson yesterday with Anna(former drum major of NLHS and AMAZING flute player). I think I'm an okay flute player right now but I'm hoping lessons with Anna this summer will make me a much better flute player. Hopefully, she'll prepare me for District this year...it's going to be tough competition.

In other news, I'm turning sixteen in three days. WOOTAY!! It's about dang time. All of my friends are like a bajillion months older than me and it bugs me so I'll finally be caught up in three days. YAY!!! So yeah. That's all for now.

Laters my non-flute playing losers! Erm, I mean peeps. By the way, if you are having trouble seeing our lovely dining room, you can click on the pictures for a better view.

Severe FWPS

Okay, so things have been going TERRIBLE!! Alright, that's a bit of an overstatement but that's not the point. I haven't had the urge to practice oboe or flute...all because my poor wittle flute is in the Flute Hospital. I miss it already. But I'm trying to be postive here; I will play much better when it is fixed. AAAHFHHHHHHFADSFJDKLFJEIRUFNSCKSDJF!!!! Sorry, minor flip out. I feel like part of me is missing and I just *holds back sobs*...I just don't know how to live!!! Music usually is my world but now, I'm bored to tears...literally! I feel so alone!!!

Yes, I was being over dramatic and yes, I was kidding...mostly. Well, Will came over again yesterday around 2:30 and we watched Spongebob all afternoon. It was great! He then stayed for dinner which was served at about 6:30. It was Thanksgiving all over again! We had turkey, stuffing, green beans, carrots, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and the ever treasured turkey gravy. After dinner, we watched Avatar: The Last Airbender(I know, dorky but we both like that show). I then challenged him to a game of Trouble and Life. I beat him both times. HA! He tried to say that he "let me win" but he was just being a sore loser and so now, I announce to the world that I beat him fair and square and he knows it. He's just not a graceful loser. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I DOMINATE!!!!!

Now, I am going to go back to counting down the days 'til I get my flute back(supposedly, from Friday, it will only be three days so four more days today). We'll see about that, though. Hopefully I remember how to play!!! That would be terrible if I forgot how to play!!! *cries hysterically* Oh well. Laters everyone!!!!

Boring but Fun!!!

My summer vacation so far has been less than appealing. I'm petsitting some dogs right now that are soooooooooo cute. Grady(8-9 month old Irish Setter) and Murphy(very old golden retriever). Today Will came over though at about 3:00 just to hang out for a while. We sat outside for a while then came inside when it got too toasty. We watched part of Final Destination 3 until I started to just reeeeeeally not wanna watch it anymore. I've seen Final Destination 1 or 2, I can't remember which, and it was the cable pg-13 version. Those weren't so bad. But the unedited R version...*shudders* You see a lot more than you ever wanted to see including girls burning alive in a tanning booth. So, we changed the channel and started watching some old Nick shows on the early 100's...those shows that you haven't seen on Nick in what seems like ages. Things like All That, Catscratch, Keenan and Kel(sp?), etc. So yeah...that was my day. I just felt like blogging so I'm sorry if this isn't interesting.

Oh and by the way, I will never ride a roller coaster again. Just kidding...just not one that has the devil on it and signs that say "You will never come back". Shouldn't that have been warning enough? (talking about Final Destination 3, here).

Laters everyone!!!

Grammar meany? Not me!

Just for an FYI for all you blogg-ers and/or comment-ers out there: If I correct your grammar and/or spelling, I am not being mean, I promise!!! I'm just a grammar freak thanks to my father, his mother, and English teachers. Please do not take it personally. I just thought I would announce that 'cause I don't want anyone to think I am being mean or rude or whatever else...it just drives me crazy. Everyone has their pet peeves as do I.

Over and out.

When it Rains, it POURS!

Today started off as somewhat sunny and not very cloudy. All of a sudden, clouds rolled in, thunder crashed, lightning began, and it started raining...HARD rain, I might add but not for very long. I took some pictures for y'all. It hasn't rained here for about a week so I have proof that when it rains, IT POURS! Actually, it has now stopped raining and it is getting sunny outside. Except for the wet ground, it looks as if nothing happened. Weird, huh? Weather is a fickle thing. =] Some of the pictures are blurry but that's because I took them through the window that had water droplets on it...oh well. =] Laters everyone!!! Also, you can click on the pictures for a better view. Some of them it doesn't look much like it's raining. =]

Some New Music Stuff

Yes, I know, this is my third post today-oh well. Who cares? So, here are some pictures of what I got when I went to The Music Center today to drop off my flute. I also included some random photos:

My new music stand. A much more durable stand than my other one. This one is nicer and will hold music better.
My old music stand. These are called "wire" stands. Less expensive but you get what you pay for...

My wire stand taken apart. It's travel worthy. =]
My new flute case!!! It has a pouch on the front and it's a much nicer case.
The inside of my new flute case.

Pistachio!!!!

The oboe...ain't it smexy?

Just a random photo of all of my music. Yes, this is filled to the top.
Well, that's all. Don't forget to read the previous two posts!!!!!!!! =]]]]

Happy Superstition!

If you are superstitious, then stay at home today and stay in a locked cage! HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not superstitious. I am actually going out today. I have to take Frito to the Instrument Hospital in Hickory. ='[. It just needs a tune-up because I play it so much. =]] I'll have it back in a matter of a couple of days. Until then, I will be suffering from fwips(FWPS). Well, I still have my piccolo. That will have to do until I get Frito back. *cries* Poor Frito!!!!

And oboe is still going well. I'm still planning to stick with it.

We went to Kohl's today for well...you'll find out later. But, while we were there, I decided to take a peek in the Juniors section for sales. AH-MAZING sales as usual. So, I thought I would post my lovely findings. Yes, this is a girly entry. Ronnie, deal with it. Everyone else, feel free to comment.

New Blog

I created a new blog. Don't worry, I'm keeping up with this one. The other one is dedicated to JUST my writing. That way, I have permission to not finish something. It just gets too unorganized trying to post writing stuff here and current news of my life and blogging thoughts here. So, the address is as follows: writerssanctuary121.blogspot.com As of this post, I have not added any posts but check back to it soon. I will be posting stuff there just not as often as here more than likely.
Also, for a quick click to get to the new blog, I added the link under "Fellow Bloggers". Just look for "Writer's Sanctuary".

New Instrument-new fun!

Earlier this semester, an oboe player in symphonic band asked me to take up oboe. I said, "Sure" and talked to Mr. U about it. He said I would be a good candidate for it. I planned on playing it after the NY trip and getting lessons from Beth(most awesomest oboist I've ever heard. Graduated senior now. =[ ), but I forgot all about it and then a couple weeks later, I decided I didn't want to do it. Well, last week of school came and I was thinking about it and I said, "Hm, it WOULD be entertainment for the summer." so now I have a borrowed school oboe and I am learning how to play it. I started learning three days ago and now I am already playing songs. It helps that I can already read music and rhythms and such things. Or maybe it's just because I am oh-so-musically inclined(kidding, guys). Whatever the reason, I'm getting pretty far along in playing.

The problem? It sounds like a moose horn. Which, that's not a big deal. The sound will get better in time as I keep playing and practicing. I thought I was not going to like oboe because it's similar to clarinet and clarinet, I just cannot get into. I tried in 7th grade, didn't like it much. Tried it again this year and still didn't like it much. I'm not going to get rid of my clarinet because I still plan on pulling it out every once and a while but anyhoo...I thought I wasn't going to like oboe but as it turns around, I really like it. I know how to play every note from the low Bflat to the high C. Now all I have to do is work on the full range. Parents, run for you lives. If you want to know how many notes that is, here I go for you. Count them 'cause I don't feel like it. You go up chromatically: Bflat, Bnatural, C, Csharp, D, Eflat, Enatural, F, Fsharp, G, Aflat, Anat., Bfl., Bnat., C, Cshapr, D, Eflat, Enat., F, Fsharp, G, Afl., Anat., Bfl, Bnat, C, Csharp. Whew. That took about five minutes to type because I had to sit there and think about it. If you see repeated notes, those are just different octaves. Same note, different pitch.

So, how hard is oboe? Very. The oboe is a double reed instrument and it hurts like you-know-what to play. My lips go numb if I play for more than 30 minutes and the tip of my tongue is raw from tonguing on the reed because it's a bit sharp to the touch. It takes A LOT of air to play. The first time I played an actual song, I thought I was going to hyperventilate. haha. It just takes a lot of air. Some people get lightheaded from learning how to play flute(I didn't 'cause I'm special. lol) but multiply that by 2 to get how hard it is to play oboe. BUT, I like it. I don't know why but I like it. I'll try to add some oboe music on here like I did James Galway music...just off to the side that you can listen to in your own time so you know what an oboe sounds like. Also, I have provided you with a picture of an oboe.

School's Out!!!

Well, that day is finally here. I'm out of school!!! Yay!!!!! Summer plans? hmm....Turning 16 the 25th, going to the beach in July, Woodwind sectional in August, possible flute sectional earlier than that, Band Camp, flute practice, possible flute lessons, etc, etc, etc. Most of all, NOTHING!!! It sounds like I'm going to be having a busy summer but I'm really not. Most of those things are like one day things. I just can't wait to go to the beach. It's going to be a nice get-away from home for a while. Of course, I will miss my kitties while I am there. haha. Tonight, I have to go to the senior awards night because the band plays for it. *dies* At least we don't have to play for the actual graduation. Now THAT would not be fun. Luckily, Mr. Underwood has a recording of a good band playing a couple years ago that they play at graduation. WOOT! I almost can't wait for the next school year because I'm going to be 16 AND a junior AND I will get to have my license April '09. WOOT WOOT!!!! But, I can wait. I like my summer vacation. =] That's all for now. I'll try to blog more often. LATERS!!!
